BOMBAY-MUMBAI.......

Con palabras no podría describir el enorme dibujo de mi sonrisa al salir del aeropuerto y encontrarnos por fin en ¡BOMBAY!. Bombay-Mumbai(así llamada localmente por su diosa Mumba Devi) es la ciudad mas poblada de la India y sin lugar a dudas la ciudad mas caótica en la que hemos estado en nuestras vidas. Esta situada en unas islas conectadas en la zona pantanosa de Maharashtra, que se adentran en el Mar de Arabia. Es sin duda una ciudad variopinta, con mezcla de culturas, religiones y con influencia bien claro de portugueses e ingleses. Durante los 3 días que pasamos en esta formidable ciudad, nos instalamos en un Hostel en el barrio “Fort” próximo al distrito de “Coloba”.Desde aquí y paseando durante largas jornadas pudimos ver la mezcla de edificios ingleses, las escuelas católicas instaladas por los portugueses ,los mercados, los campos de criquet, la impresionante estación de trenes de Chhatrapati Shivaji (Unesco) o la famosa Gateway of India con su famoso arco, de donde partió el último barco inglés en febrero de 1948 dejando al fin una nación independiente... Bombay no es ciudad para descripciones , sino mas bien para sentirla.

Mumbai is chaos pure. From the first moments spent there till the last it was like a colorful hell. But that does not matter that I didn't like it... it was just to chaotic, loud, cowded. Definately NOT a city I would like to live in but still worth to see. The beautiful colonial buildings from the times of the British Empire are amazing and even though they're really touched by the time and although noone is taking care of these architectonical pearls, you can still see how prescius they must have been. The Gate of India, that welcomes the sailors is so huge and is the best postcardview that you can imagine from Mumbai. The Great Court and Main Post Office are worth to take a close look at aswell... and off course you cannot forget the central train station- the Victoria Station. But Mumbai has also another side... somwhere between the sightseeing paths you'll find the slums- far away from the modern city, people live for less during a month then we would spend for onetime little shopping.

Szorcik: Bombaj to chaos. Nie można sobie tego chaosu wyobrazić... to trzeba po prostu zobaczyć. Bombaj to największy port Indii. Miasto ma dwie nazwy- pochodzącą z hinduskiego Mumbaj (od bogini Mumba) oraz portugalską Bombaj- wywodzącą się od Bom Bahia czyli Dobra Zatoka. Bombaj to przede wszystkim piękna kolonialna architektura- pozostałość po rezydujących tu tak długo brytyjczykach i portugalczykach. Niestety większość z tych architektonicznych perełek powoli się rozsypuje... niestety na remonty brak jest pieniędzy, a szkoda, bo wraz z tymi pięknymi budynkami zniknie też kolonialny klimat miasta. Symbolem miasta jest Brama Indii, czyli 26-metrowy łuk zbuowany z okazji wizyty króla angielskiego Jerzego V, który do tej pory wita turystów i żeglarzy. Zwiedzając miasto nie można zapomnieć o Dworcu Wiktorii czyli wybudowanej w 1888r głównej stacjim kolejowej Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Niedaleko od dworca znajduje się równie imponujący budynek poczty głównej. Również budynek sądu załuguje na odrobinę uwagi.
