ROMAN HOLIDAY...by night

We were trying hard to see as much as possible in the short time, that we had for our stay in Rome, this meant that we had to  do some sightseeing by night- this gave us also the possibility to breathe the night ambiance of the city and taste some pizza and wine nder the moon:)

Szorcik: Czasu mało a zwiedzania ogrom.

Each big city has this special district with an unforgetable atmosphere, a place where all the artists and all the students live side by side, where you find the best parties and the best second hand markets. In Rome this district is called Trastevere. We went there both during the day and the night and I felled in love with this small streets- lazy during the day and full of life in the night.

AVE, IMPERATOR, MORITURI TE SALUTANT

Have you ever heard about the Paris Syndrome, when the tourist get depressed when the place they wanted to see so much is much less beautiful then they imagined? Well I have something completely different- I expect much less then I find- and that was the case with the Colosseum. It is so beautiful, much bigger and monumental then I thought. I realy loved it but couldn't enjoy the beauty of the place at the fullest because of it's history... I have the feelling that the tourists visiting this place forget what it was built for and how many people suffered and died there. For me it has a double meaning...it shows the incredible architecture built for a deadly puprose.

VENI, VIDI, VICI

Rome is full of history and "must see" sites. Everywhere you go, you find (because you was searching or despite you was not searching at all). At some point we weren't even checking what we are looking at- just to much good for the two short days.
But off course we have visited the most important  turist sites- and I must say that the city is incredibly beautiful. If there is one city you MUST to go to in your lifetime- for sure it is Rome.

The Pantheon, Trajan's Market, Forum Romanum, The Capitoline Hill... all the remains of the roman civilation just take your breath away- even though sometimes it is necesary to use your imagination to see how it looked like before, still you are lef with an incredble impression of beeing as near to the history as one possibly can be.

Also the 'new' monuments are interesting ang fit perfectly in the ancien atmosphere of the city- like fx the National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II or "Il Vittoriano" - a monument built in honour of Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy. The monument holds the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame, built under the statue of Italy after World War I.

A very important place in the city lanscape are the many squares like Piazza Venezia, Piazza del Popolo  or Piazza Navona, where you can observe the everydaylife of the ramanians mixed with the countless tourists that visit the town. And last but not least- the Spanish Steps- a absolut must on the sightseeing list.

Every good thing comes to an end... so did the big italian adventure in the van. The last day was to drive home... but off course we wouldn't be ourselves, if we wouldn't make some stops to feel the vacations just for a bit more. First stop was a small italian town of Arenzano, where we drank our last italian coffee and swam in the see on a small cozy beach. Then we went to Toulon- yet another cool french city with a really nic beach where we could lay on the grass and swim in the perfectly clean, blue water.... a sweet ending of a big adventure which we enjoyed a lot.... too bad it already ended, but will always stay in the memories!!!Thank you all: Hector, Maria, Vicente and Mrowka so much- for the great fun and company!!!
