Pablo y su madre, nos hicieron de guías en la región Totonaca, civilización prehispánica que habitaba la zona de Veracruz y que tiene gran importancia en la historia de México.
Fuimos hasta las ruinas de la que antaño fue la capital totonaca Cempoala, allí habitaban hasta 30000 habitantes y fue una próspera ciudad hasta la llegada de los españoles en 1519, aunque ya en esta época los Totonecas estaban sometidos al imperio Azteca. Esta ciudad estuvo poblada desde el sigo I d.c y estaba situada a la orilla del río Actopan y a sólo seis kilómetros del Golfo de México.
En lo que hoy es el sitio arqueológico, pudimos visitar varias pirámides como el Templo del Sol, el Templo Mayor y muchas mas. Estas estructuras están levantadas con piedras redondas traídas de la orilla del mar y del río , y en su estructura se pueden ver plazas y fortificaciones alrededor de las pirámides. Fue sin duda un importante centro religioso y político en su época.
También fuimos a visitar el centro arqueológico de Quiahuiztlan donde pudimos ver tumbas y unas formidables vistas sobre el Océano.
Así como de disfrutar de una agradable tarde de "playeo" en las vecinas costas, mientras saboreábamos las típicas cervezas de la amistad.
The Totonac people occupied the mountains and the coast, the region known by them as Totonacapan. Their mythology claims, that their original seed was Teotihuacan, near Mexico city, where they have migrated from to settle down closer to coast, but there is no archeological evidence for that.
On our day roadtrip with Pablo and his mom Zoila, we have visited the archeological cites important for the Totonaca culture: the ruins of the ancient city of Cempoala and Quiahuitztlan- a complex of temples, ballcourt, plazas and residences, which are built on artificial and natural terraces on a quite high mountain- Cerro de los Metates. The city of Quiahuitztlan was rather big with its 16 thousand inhabitants, but it was also used as a fortress due to its hilly location. The archeological site is now mostly known for the three cemeteries on the mountain, with 78 graves altogheter.
Cempoala is the city of 20 waters, called this way because of the very well developed chain of aqueducts and irrigation canals. Cempoala was the capital of Totonac and Zapotec country and the largest city in the Gulf with around 30000 people living here.
After the dive in totonac history we also needed a real dive in the sea, so to make the day complete we visited one of Pablo´s favourite beaches, called la Mancha.
Region wokol Veracruz zamieszkany byl przez Totonakow. Wedlug ich mitologii, oryginalnym miejscem zamieszkania bylo dla nich centrum kraju- szczegolnie okolice Meksyku, gdzie wedlug przekazow zbudowali miasto Teotihuacan. Nie ma na to archeologicznych dowodow, jednak kiedy Cortes dotarl do wybrzezy Veracruz, Totonakowie z zapalem poloczyli swe sily z Hiszpanami przeciw azteckim plemionom Mexica, ktore zamieszkiwaly legendarna kolebke kultury Totonaka.
Wraz z Pablo i jego pelna werwy mama Zoila odwiedzilismy dwie historyczne lokalizacje.
Zaczelismy od dawnej stolicy Totonekow, Cempoali. Miasto to, dzieki rozbudowanej sieci akweduktow i kanalow irygacyjnych, znane bylo ze swoich pieknych ogrodow, a sama nazwa Cempoala oznacza "dostatek wody" albo "dwadziescia zrodel".
Quiahuiztlan to wykopalisko niezwykle. Ruiny preznego miasta byly tez forteca, ktora zachwycila pierwszych przybylych tu Hiszpanow. Quiahuiztlan wybudowane zostalo na bardzo stromym zboczu gory, dajacej widok na cala okolice oraz daleko w morze. Na kamiennych tarasach, oprocz nie do konca jeszcze wykopanych ruin, znalezc mozna trzy ciekawe cmentarze z w sumie 76 swietnie zachowanymi nagrobkami.
Po zanurzeniu sie w otchlanie historii musielismy sie tez zanurzyc w morskiej wodzie, ktorej blekit zdawal sie nas przywolywac z daleka.
Pablo zabral nas na swoja ulubiona plaze w La Mancha. Dzielilismy ja wylacznie z wodnymi ptakami, a dzien zakonczylismy kolacja z pieknym widowiskiem, ktore zgotowalo nam zachodzace slonce.
