MEDELLÍN , LA CIUDAD DE LA ETERNA PRIMAVERA.

Medellín, capital de Antioquia, es catalogada como "La ciudad de la Eterna Primavera", por su buen clima durante todo el año, pero durante nuestra estancia por casi 40 días, digamos que mas de un día la primavera desapareció para dar cabida a "La ciudad de la Eterna Llovedera".

Medellín es una ciudad manejable, situada en el Valle de Aburrá en la cordillera Central de los Andes. La ciudad abarca por completo el valle, coloreándolo todo de tonalidades de color ladrillo y siendo un espectáculo verla desde las alturas desde cualquier mirador o el mismísimo metrocable.Su hermosura radica en su paisaje montañoso, en su clima primaveral o en su actividad cultural o nocturna.

En Medellín no quedan muchos edificios de arquitectura colonial, pero en cambio la ciudad da muestras de innovación y progreso con una gran cantidad de plazas, parques y lugares de interés. Sin duda la plaza de mayor importancia es la Plaza de Botero junto al Museo de Antioquia, donde uno se fascina sin rubor ante las hermosas y pintorescas esculturas en bronce de Fernando Botero allí situadas, siendo esta plaza un auténtico museo a cielo abierto.

Medellín es una ciudad donde uno puede caminar durante horas, entre el gentío, los mercados y el día a día de la gente, para perderse en las plazas o parques o buscar comida callejera en cualquiera de los barrios.

La Navidad se vive muy fuerte en Medellín, teniendo uno de los alumbrados mas hermosos y peculiares que he visto nunca, situado en la avenida de la Playa, donde cada tarde después de las 18h, la gente se agolpa a disfrutar de los colores, la música, los amigos, la familia y la diversión.

Todo lo que hicimos o vimos en Medellín fue gratificante, compartir con amigos de sus calles, pasear en busca de rincones novedosos, disfrutar de cervezas en sus plazas mas animadas o simplemente comer y degustar comida callejera en cualquiera de sus plazas mientras, la primavera te abraza o la lluvia te acecha.

Medellin- the city of everlasting spring they say... we would rather say the city of everlasting rain :) Medellin has the fame of a cultural capital of this part of the world. A multicultural city with loads of stuff to do. It is also beautifully placed, in a valley, surrounded by hills partially covered with houses all made in red brick.
The climate (when the rain stops) is really nice- not to hot, not to cold.
Not much of the colonial architecture is left (although there is still a bit here and there), most of the center was built in art deco or modern style. But the infrastructure is nicely planned. Subway works great, and the parts of the city that are built on the hills are connected with Metrocable- a gondola style subway.
In the parks there are beautiful playgrounds, the museums are amazing and kids and young people definately don´t lack freetime options.
The trademark of the city is Plaza Botero- a sculpture park in the very center of Medellin, where 23 of the sculptures of the Medellin native Fernando Botero show their vuluptuous curves. Art is present everywhere- from murals to graffitti, sculptures and huge monuments and amazing architecture.
We also had the luck to be in Medellin in the month of december, just at the right time for Iluminados- the christmas lights that cover the whole city. Some of the streets are closed for cars and people just come here to get in the christmas mood, eat, dance and listen to the music.

Medellin to podobno miasto wiecznej wiosny, choć w naszej pamięci zapisało się raczej jako miasto wiecznego deszczu... ale rzeczywiście klimat tego drugiego co do wielkości miasta Kolumbii jest bardzo przyjazny (szczególnie kiedy się przejaśnia). Nie jest tu ani za gorąca, ani za zimno- zazwyczaj dwadziesciakilka stopni. Miasto zbudowano w dolinie, a otaczające je zielone góry powoli zminiaja kolor z soczystej zieleni na czerwień cegieł, z których się tu buduje.
Niestety kolonialnej architektury nie ma tu wiele, za to dzielnice w centrum miasta kryją wiele perełek art deco. Piękny jest szpital i uniwersytet medyczny, a nowoczesne rozwiązania architektoniczne są niezwykle ciekawe i funkcjonalne. Medellin to metropolia świetnie zaplanowana- przynajmniej w centrum, bo że względu na położenie miasto nie ma powierzchni do rozbudowy i osiedla położone na wzgórzach są dość... ciasne. W centrum natomiast nietrudno znaleźć parki i małe skwery, gdzie można usiąść w cieniu drzew, posłuchać muzyki, zjeść, wypić kawę. Pełno tu publicznych siłowni na świeżym powietrzu i jeszcze więcej placów zabaw. Medellin ma famę miasta kulturalnej stolicy tej części świata. Rzeczywiście dzieje się tu sporo a sztuka jest wszechobecna. Najbardziej znanym fragmentem miasta jest Plaża Botero, gdzie stoi 23 olbrzymich rzeźb podarowanych miastu prze pochadzacego stąd słynnego rzeźbiarza Fernando Botero.
Nasz pobyt w Medellin zbiegł się z okresem świat Bożego Narodzenia- od początku grudnia całe miasto jest bardzo dokładnie dekorowane- świąteczne ozdoby są olbrzymie (kolorowe i kiczowate) i są wszędzie. W nocy Los Iluminados, czyli tysiące światełek zapałają się w całym mieście, tworząc naprawdę cudowna atmosferę. Niektóre z głównych ulic są zamykane dla ruchu samochodowego i otwarte dla ruchu pieszego- spacerów, muzyki i ulicznego jedzenia.
