GEORGETOWN, CAPITAL DE GUYANA.

Georgetown, la capital de Guyana me fascino desde el primer momento en que puse un pie en ella, bajándome de un minibus en el mercado de Stabroek.
El ajetreo de gente, el mestizaje cultural y las sonrisas y amabilidad de al gente hicieron que siempre nos sintiéramos felices recorriendo sus calles.
Esta ciudad marcada por la colonización holandesa, francesa e inglesa conserva aún edificaciones históricas, pues parte de la ciudad desapareció tras un gran incendio en 1945.
La Catedral de Saint George, el Stabroek Market, Parliament Building, the City Hall,The High Court o el Umana Yana son entre otros los mas destacados edificios en cuanto a arquitectura se refiere. Estos edificios le dan cierto colorido y forma a esta ciudad, en la que los pequeños canales, los parques o el paseo frente al Océano Atlántico son parte cotidiana del día a día de la ciudad.
Georgetown,está situada junto a la desembocadura del Demerara en su apacible encuentro con el Atlático. Aquí la pesca es un ritual, y barcas y barcos cruzan el río de un lado a otro en un frenesí cotidiano. El Demerara river es parte inseparable de esta ciudad.
Cabe destacar que es una ciudad acogedora, donde conviven descendientes de indios y descendientes de africanos en su mayoría. La cultura Rasta está en cada esquina, la música y la hermandad llenaron nuestros días, y las gastronomía Ital( rasta) fue parte habitual de nuestro día a día.
Perderse por sus calles siempre fue sinónimo de risas y colores.

Georgetown is the capital of Guyana. The history of the country is visible here on every corner.... the Dutch cut the landscape into a chessboard of canals and sluises and the French and the British added their touch to the wooden architecture of the city but the big fire in 1945 robbed the city of many of the historical buildings. Still, the buzzing chaos of Stabroek, the hundreds of small veggie stands on each corner, the taxis using their horns without no visible reason and without mercy to the pedestriants ears, horses walking on the streets and kids playing cricket, make it easy to imagine, how was the city life many years ago. 
Unfortunately a lot of the old architecture is in really bad state (I still dont know howcome the city hall can still be standing... and be in use), but some of the building are finally getting the necessary attention, like the cathedral.
Georgetown is often called the garden city of the Caribbean. It´s true- you can easily find shadow under the trees when the heat gets to oppressive. We really liked the small Promenade Garden in the center- a real oasis of local trees and flowers.
But you know what we liked the most? The atmosphere and the people. Wherever you go, you see those huuuuge smiles on peoples faces and it´s just so easy to start a conversation with anyone... just like that! People are helpfull and they also seem to enjoy life much more than anywhere we´ve been to! I can´t even explain it... they just seem happy and spread that feeling around them! 
And yeah.... each time we visited Georgetown, we had the same soundtrack in our heads: ¨Sun is shining, the weather is sweet. Make you want to move your dancing feet¨  ;)

Georgetown to stolica Gujany. Historia jest tu widoczna na każdym kroku. Holendrzy pocięli krajobraz szachownicą kanałów i śluz. Francuzi i Brytyjczycy pozostawili po sobie piękną drewnianą architekturę. Niestety pożary zniszczyły wiele z najpiękniejszych budynków- ostatni z nich, w 1945 roku pochłonął naprwde sporą część historycznego centrum. Dodatkowo, te z budynków które stoją do dziś, są nieco zapomniane. Remontowana jest co prawda katedra, niektóre ambasady zajęły się też wyglądem swych siedzib, ale mnóstwo kolonialnych perełek po prostu niszczeje zapomniana. Do tej pory zastanawiamy się jak to możliwe że ratusz nadal stoi i w dodatku jest nadal używany.
Nietrudno jednak sobie wyobrazić jak wyglądało tutaj życie kiedyś. Jest to miejsce pełne energii, gwarne, chaotyczne. Kulturalny tygiel, łączący Karaiby, Afrykę i Indie. Na ulicach jest głośno, targ Stabroek tętni życiem, a uliczni sprzedawcy swym nawoływaniem tworzą miejską muzykę. Rytmu dodają trąbiące bez litości taksówki. Dzieci grają w krykieta na trawiastych skwerach, czasami przez ulicę przechodzą konie, grupki młodzieży gromadzą się na rogach ulic i słuchają muzyki. Wszyscy i wszystko są w ruchu. Ale kiedy robi się za gorąco, od hałasu i nieznośnego gorąca można uciec do jednego z wielu parków- naszym ulubionym był Promenade Garden.
Naszym ulubionym wspomnieniem z Goergetown są jednak ludzie. Są oni niezwykle otwarci i sympatyczni. Bardzo łatwo nawiązać kontakt z mieszkańcami miasta. podchodzą sami- rozmawiają, i obdarzają największymi, promiennymi uśmiechami. Każdy mijany przechodzień rzuca dzień dobry i życzy miłego dnia, Wszyscy chcą pomóc albo zapytać skąd jesteśmy. I wszyscy sprawiają wrażenie szczęśliwych- ta radość życia jest zresztą zaraźliwa. W Georgetown uśmiech nie schodził nam z twarzy a w głowach brzmiały pozytywne melodię i obowiązkowe tu reaggae....
